TrapTox

Once again, an interesting article has appeared in my copy of Aesthetic Medicine which I summarise below. This is an article written by Cosmetic Doctor Noreen Hashmi and you can read the article in full on their website. Below is a simple summary.
Traptox involves the use of Botulinum Toxin into the muscles around the shoulders and neck areas for the purpose of reducing pain and/ or slimming down the neckline or shoulders. This pain or other issues being most usually caused by bad posture including when using kit such as mobile phones.
Technically speaking, according to the article, the muscle relaxing injections inhibit the release of acetylcholine, which is a neurotransmitter responsible for muscle contractions at the neuromuscular junction - simply put, it temporarily paralyses the trapezius muscle (the one across your back) which can reduce a lot of neck pain issues.
From a cosmetic perspective, as the toxin means the muscles are less used, then the muscle shrinks over time, thus leading to a slimmer and more refined profile.
It should be noted that the action of the injections is temporary and must be carried out by a very well skilled, qualified Doctor. The risks are mainly not getting the injections at the exact site and at the exact depth and, of course, at exactly the right strength.
