Summer and Sunscreen

Heliocare Sun Protection

When going on holiday, we cannot stress enough the need for a good sunscreen of at least SPF50. Those that neglect sunscreen are likely to see sun spots or, to give them their proper name, solar lentigenes. These are, generally speaking, not cancerous. You may well see them on your hands, face and neck.

Melanin released by melanocytes is a main factor in the bodies defence against sun exposure. Melanin production is started by the enzyme Tyrosinase. Melanin-inhibiting ingredients most often attempt to stop this enzyme before it causes an increase in melanin production.

You can use creams with Kojic Acid and of course, Hydroquinone. There have been issues with the latter, but this is mainly in the industrial product. If you are unsure, do take proper professional advice. The best route, though, is still a good quality sunscreen. Check for UVA and UVB protection and you now the option of chemical or mineral sunscreens. We suggest you checkout our Heliocare selection.
