Face Primers

Primers can come in a few different formats for different areas of the face. You should have a face primer to prepare the skin for foundation application and a shadow primer to enhance the pigment in your eyeshadow.

Using a face primer will mean using less of your foundation; primers fill fine lines and help hide any imperfections there may be on the skin, offering a smoother surface to apply your foundation. Primers create a superior surface adhesion, so your makeup stays in place and lasts for longer, especially if weather conditions are extreme.

For dull skin, use an illuminating primer. Brightening or illuminating primers work in the same way as a highlighter but are subtler, so they’re suitable for use over the entire complexion.

For dry skin, use hydrating primers and moisturising sprays. Look for creamy, moisturising or gel-based primers that will offer all-day hydration, as well as creating an even, bright base. Look for products containing hydrating ingredients, such as hyaluronic acid and glycerine. Avoid mattifying primers,

For oily skin, find a mattifying primer and top with a setting spray. Lightweight and mineral primers that won’t block pores but will still provide hydration. Products that contain ingredients that treat the skin while providing a smooth makeup base and primers containing ingredients such as Salicylic Acid can help this skin type.

For red skin, a color-correcting primer will help even out skin tone. A primer with green undertones will help to counteract the red flush. If you have sallow undertones, choose lavender, and peach-coloured primers will brighten skin and disguise any pigmentation.
